Originally known as Associated Western Universities (AWU) Academic Research Connections has a dynamic history of providing professional development through fellowships that provides hands-on academic research-applied opportunities to compliment a student's academic experience.
Academic Research Connections (ARC) has been established to link the resources of business, industry, and government with Academia. Working in partnership with federal and business/ndustrial facilities, ARC matches the aptitudes of academic students with the needs of research and development - important capabilities of the private and government sector.
All facets of an academic fellowship are included in this service: (1) Academic fellowship stipends, (2) Non-stipend fellowship awards, (3) Travel to and from the partnership site, and (4) Travel to academic related conferences, conventions, and competitions. Each and every participant is covered by an accident insurance.
Professional Development for K-12 Teachers is a strong component of ARC. Teachers participate in dynamic workshops and participate in cutting-edge technology curriculum. Teachers are enrolled in Graduate 505 Non-Degree courses which provides recertification credits and professional development that follows the current guidelines in the No Child Left Behind Act.

Work Is Learning Fellowship Program for High School, Post-Secondary and Graduate Students
NO WORKMAN’S COMPENSATION, FICA, STATE OR FEDERAL TAXES - Students are NOT EMPLOYEES
- The Work Is Learning Program is an education program which allows education benefits to a business.
- Participants are covered with a 24/7 general liability/accident insurance policy therefore NO Workman’s Compensation is needed.
- FICA, State and Federal taxes do not apply as students receive academic stipends and are NOT employees.
- Strictly a fellowship experience to further their education.
Innovative Instructional Graduate 505 Courses
- All coursework is accomplished online through DVDs, research of the Internet, CD Rom curriculum and Email submittals. The courses are Non-Degree Seeking Graduate 505 credits that are used for lane changes and recertification. Each course is approved through an accredited university/college and participants are provided with an official transcript.
